"Le Cirque Molier" or "The Circus Molier" is a design by the iconic Hermès artist, Philippe Dumas and was first issued by Hermès in 1983. His design is an artistic homa̒ge to Ernest Molier, an amateur French horseman of renown, who started a circus on this Paris estate in 1880, and stopping at his death in 1933. Cirque Molier, or Cirque des amateurs, was an annual charity gala which featured only amateur clowns, trapeze artists, acrobats, and equestrian and equestrienne performers recruited from French aristocracy and wealthy upper-middle class Parisians. His Cirque was one of the most popular events in elegant and fashionable Paris, and was attended only by invitation. This now rare and beloved design was resissued as part of the 1995 Hermès autumn/winter collection, and as part of the 2004 and 2005 spring/summer collections The attached fabric/care label dates this scarf as a 1995/1996 reissue.
The cheery colorway is comprised of a sunshine yellow border surrounding a light and dark yellow gold background with design details rendered in a riot of accent colors of crimson, olive, hunter green, midnight blue, silver and caramel.
This vintage scarf is in vintage 9, like new condition, lightly worn condition (see our condition scale for reference). There are no stains, spots, discolorations, holes, thread snags or thread runs. Hems are intact, tight and plump. The fabric/care label is attached. The silk is clean, thick and fresh with a smooth hand. The colors are vibrant. The scarf measures 35.25" x 35" (89.5cm x 88.9cm).
This carre̒ is an extraordinary Hermès to own to wear or collect. No box comes with this scarf, but be assured, we will carefully pack and pad it for damage free shipping.
