Laura Lamont was born in 1880 in Tara, Ontario. She studied at the Central Ontario School of Art and Design in Toronto, Ontario (now the Ontario College of Art). After working as an art supervisor for the public school board in Brantford, Ontario, Lamont and her husband moved to Saskatchewan, settling in Avonlea (1920). She taught art at the Avonlea Public School for five years before moving to Regina, where she became an instructor and art supervisor at Provincial Normal School. Lamont held this position until 1940, when she became an private painting instructor, teaching students including renowned Saskatchewan painter Terry Fenton.

Lamont's work, primarily watercolour paintings of landscape and flowers, were exhibited in group shows in Saskatchewan beginning in 1943. Many of her watercolours of wild flowers were also included in science books for public schools. In addition to many private collections, Lamont's work is represented in the collections of the Saskatchewan Arts Board, Dunlop Art Gallery (Regina), Mendel Art Gallery (Saskatoon), Moose Jaw Normal School, and Regina Public Library.

Laura Lamont passed away in Regina in 1970.
